Senior Missionary Series: How Will My Time Be Spent at the Missionary Training Center?

Once you enter the MTC, you will be put on a pretty tight schedule. You’ve got a lot to learn and only a short time in which to do it, so you’ll be busy the whole time you’re there.

Breakfast is served between 7:00 and 8:00. You’ll have a wide assortment of delicious foods to choose from, as we discussed the other day. But you don’t want to linger too long—your first class will begin at 8:30.

You’ll be in classes until around 11:00. Lunch is served in shifts between 11:00-1:00 to accommodate the huge numbers of missionaries that must be fed at each meal. After lunch, you’ll sit in more classes, and then you’ll be served dinner.

In the evenings, you’ll attend meetings, firesides, and have special speakers. After those gatherings, you’ll return to your room, where you and your companion will spend the last few minutes before bed studying your lesson materials for class the next day. Then it’s lights out at ten – no burning the midnight oil for you!

You will also have the opportunity to attend the temple at least once during your MTC stay.

And just what will you be learning in your classes? How to teach the gospel, and the Spirit will be there to help you. You will be taught how to deliver the lessons, how to approach on the street or at doors, and how to deliver baptism challenges. If yours is not a proselyting mission, you’ll be trained for your specific area of service, be it office, welfare, or what have you. For those missionaries going overseas, you will have already been taught the language home study preparatory to leaving, and you’ll be in the MTC for only 1-2 weeks. The younger missionaries will stay in the MTC longer to learn their languages on site.

So don’t worry – you won’t have time to sit around and get bored, or to feel homesick. Your time will be filled with rich, meaningful activities, and you will be blessed for the time you spend in the MTC.
