Seriously, Don’t Jump off the Trams

“Please remain seated while the tram is in motion. Don’t jump off the tram to retrieve a lost item. Rather wait till the next stop and speak to the driver or the cast member in the rear of the tram and someone will go retrieve your lost item.”

When you travel to Disney World or Disney Land for that matter, there are trams available in several areas for you to ride. For most visitors, the parking lot tram is a comfortable way to get from the parking lot to the front gate of your chosen destination. When you get on board the tram, you will hear those recorded words played several times and yet – it seems there’s always someone who decides that they are going to leap off the tram to grab a fallen bag, hat, stroller or other item.

The trams may look slow moving and lumbering, but they are going a great deal faster than you may think. There was an article in the Orlando Sentinel recently describing a man who jumped off a moving tram to grab a stroller that slipped off and he received some scrapes and bruises for his trouble.

The warning is not there to be an inconvenience for visitors to the park, but because there are times when things do fall off and you can get hurt. It’s the same reason why children have to ride on the inside of the tram and why they cannot ride while sitting in their stroller. You may be lucky and get off with some bumps and bruises, but you are still running the risk of hitting the asphalt at speed and that can lead to head injuries, burns and potentially broken bones.

So on your next visit to Disney World or Disney Land, listen to the friendly warnings and advice offered by the cast members and recordings. They wouldn’t tell you this if people didn’t do it and they wouldn’t tell you this if they didn’t want to keep you from getting hurt – so have a little faith in the Disney folks. They will retrieve your fallen items and they won’t have to retrieve your fallen self.

Have you ever jumped off a moving tram?
