You all know I’m taking the Body-for-Life Challenge, right? Well, if you’ve read the book Body-for-Life, you know that making this 12-week transformation isn’t just about your body. This is about more than just weight loss. It is about physical, mental, and spiritual health – a complete transformation of the self. A huge factor in that transformation is giving. It is a universal law – you have to give it to get it.
Bearing that in mind, I’ve decided to walk in every fundraising walk I can find. The universe was listening because as soon as I decided to do that, I saw a commercial for WalkAmerica. Coincidence? I don’t believe in them.
WalkAmerica is an annual walk that benefits the March of Dimes. The money raised helps the March of Dimes to continue its mission to help save all babies from serious threats to their health. Over 75 cents of every dollar raised is spent on innovative research and programs to help give premature babies a fighting chance. Now that is a great cause if you ask me!
Here is the beauty of it – I MUST walk in this walk. I can’t blow off walking this six-mile walk. Why? Because one of my friends has already sponsored me for $50. When I registered for the walk at http://www.walkamerica.org/ all I had to do was commit to the walk and then enter the names and email addresses of all of my friends and family and then the March of Dimes did the sponsor solicitations for me (no knocking on doors and begging for sponsors). So I’ve been sponsored and I have to do it or else I’ll be keeping $50 from helping a preemie somewhere.
If you have a hard time getting motivated, consider doing something like this. Not only are you contributing to a great cause, but you’ll be contributing to your better health.
*Note: have a baby but no babysitter? Do what I’m doing and make your child/children part of a “family team” and bring them with you. My son is only 18 months old, so he’ll be riding in his stroller, but older kids could ride bikes or scooters or even walk with you. This is a great way to teach children the value in giving and set a great example for them to contribute to their community.
Remember, you’ve got to give it to get it, so let’s start giving!
