One area that you may serve in the Relief Society organization is on the Enrichment Committee. The enrichment committee is in charge of planning all of the enrichment nights and activities. This calling can be a very busy one. It takes a lot of work to put on enrichment activities on a regular basis. The enrichment committee operates under an enrichment leader who defers to the enrichment counselor in the Relief Society presidency.
The enrichment committee can operate a number of different ways. Each person on the committee could be put in charge of a certain thing (refreshments, setting up, children’s class, decorating, clean up, publicity) and the committee would meet, plan, assign and disperse. It may be that each member is in charge of seeing a specific enrichment activity group through. For example one sister may be in charge of playgroup, while another makes sure that the book club is operating properly.
Enrichment committee members are responsible for planning, setting up and overseeing all of the enrichment nights. Every sister is encouraged to attend these meetings, and so a great deal of effort goes into the meetings. Classes can be offered or a dinner presented. For each enrichment night there are lots of details that need to be coordinated.
I have served on the enrichment committee. When I first received the calling, I thought that it was a made-up calling, but I was wrong. I have served in many capacities in the church and the only calling that was busier was when I was in the Young Women’s presidency. However, I have never served in the Relief Society presidency, which I understand is even busier. I was reluctant to serve on the enrichment committee, since enrichment was not my thing. During my time on the committee I realized the importance of Enrichment night. I also formed wonderful friendships, and many other blessings.
