Take advantage of the parental controls settings on your Nintendo Wii and keep your kids safe from inappropriate video game content and themes.

You will then be prompted for a 4-digit pin. Enter one that you are sure to remember and your kids are sure not to guess. This number will be used to lock and unlock games that are not appropriate. Once you enter the pin and hit OK, you will be asked to choose a secret question in case you forget the pin. Select a question and then enter an answer.

At this point, your pin and secret question have been set, but you will still need to continue to set up the parental controls. Choose the “Game Settings and Pin” button that is the first button on your current screen. If you make a mistake you can choose to clear your settings or exit the screen.

At the Game settings and Pin screen, you’ll be asked to choose the setting that you want to change. You’ll see the option to change the pin you just set and the secret question. The third option is what you want. “Highest Game Rating Allowed.” Choose this.

You’ll then see a box that displays the current highest rating allowed, such as Any, Teen, etc. There are arrows at the right of the box that allow you to scroll to select the highest game rating that you wish the Wii to play without requiring the pin number to be entered. Select “OK.” Then select “Confirm.”

Your Nintendio Wii is now set up with parental controls. If a game is loaded that contains a rating higher than the one you selected, the user will be promoted for a pin to unlock use of the game.
