Setting weekly goals can be very helpful in developing a solid fitness routine. Although I would like to say that everyday I will walk two miles, I know that it’s currently an unattainable goal. So by breaking my walking routine down, I can take smaller steps that will eventually lead to my bigger goal.
I am just the type of person that likes to be realistic. When I set weekly goals for myself, no matter what area of my life I am working on, it makes them more attainable. When goals are attainable they give you motivation and encouragement to keep going.
So I came up with an idea for my walking routine. The first week I established a route I would take. Everyday for that week I walked the same route. Sometimes I would change things up by starting and ending the route differently but I always took the same one. The next week I added an additional block to my walking routine. I walked that for another week. Then the next week I added on yet another block. I think you get the picture here. These are weekly goals that have been attainable. Now when I look back on where I started and where I am, I feel very positive. This helps me to keep going and keep trying.
I have done the same with my weight lifting. I do exercises that incorporate my five pound weights where I work my arms and legs. I started off one week doing a particular set of exercises and then increased them by 10 sets the next week. I will keep doing this, building up my routine to something that is workable.
I get easily discouraged so I have found that setting weekly goals really helps me to keep moving forward. If you are discouraged by your fitness routine, you just might need to start off with smaller goals and work your way toward that bigger one.
You could even do this with your eating habits. One week eliminate soda. The next week you could eliminate a particular snack. You just keep establishing weekly goals that are doable and pretty soon you have developed a brand new way of eating. Now what will your goals for this week be?
