Do you want to save money? Become aware of these seven spending triggers, and you could just save yourself a lot of debt.
Buying stuff when you are bored
Sometimes when we have nothing better to do or just need an activity to fill a few hours, we go shopping. I’m as guilty as the next person for browsing a store while waiting for an appointment. If you are the same way, keep the credit cards at home or locked in the car, so you won’t be tempted to spend.
Buying stuff when it is a good deal
I am a bargain shopper! I enjoy seeing 70 percent off and have a hard time resisting 90 percent off. But If I buy things I don’t need, I’ll soon be in the poorhouse.
Buying stuff for entertainment
Shopping can be a fun and entertaining way to spend time. It can even be very social. But if you are spending out of entertainment and not need, well, then you are probably spending too much.
Buying stuff to meet an emotional need
People sometimes buy things when they are lonely, discouraged, need a sense of security, etc. They can buy to lift their spirits. But buying too much can lead to more problems.
Buying stuff to so you won’t be left behind
If your neighbors and friends have certain things, it can be tempting to have them too. After all, you don’t want to be the one who is in the dark about the latest gadget, movie or home accessory.
Buying stuff because it is available
Sometimes we overeat because there is a lot of food available. We can do this when we make purchases, too. We buy in bulk sometimes and the the products just take up space.
Buying stuff because it is convenient
Buying something new instead of taking the time to repair or find the old one is so tempting. We can also buy things because it is more convenient when we are out and about, such that coffee or bottle of water. Convenience factors in to the food we eat, the the appliances we buy and more.
