Did you know that Sarah Jessica Parker begged her agent to terminate her “Sex and the City” contract after signing up for the role?
According to the actress, it’s true.
The TV and film star revealed the news while on a press junket for the new “Sex and the City” movie. Parker says she was enjoying her pre-“Sex and the City” life picking and choosing various New York projects, which allowed her time to spend with her friends and family and she was terrified at the prospect of being tied to a TV show for an entire series.
The 42-year-old actress also admits that her anxiety reached such a critical point that she called her agent in a panic and begged him to convince “Sex and the City” producers that she was wrong for the part so she could get out of her contract.
“I had a wonderful life in New York. I was doing theatre and movies, had plenty of free time and regularly saw my friends, so I was in a panic when I was told that I’d need to be around for regular filming,” Parker reveals.
“No one could calm me down. I kept thinking, ‘What can I do to escape?’ I’d call my agent, begging, ‘You have to get me out of this. I don’t care what it takes. Even if I’m broke on the street, I can’t do Sex and the City as a series.'”
What a difference a few years, several million viewers and a ton of cash can make on a girl’s mind.
Parker says her agent refused to allow her to give into her irrational fears, and some time later—-after the show’s phenomenal success—-the actress says she thanked him for doing so.
I didn’t have cable when the show first debuted on HBO, but got caught up when it moved into syndication and frankly I can’t imagine the show without Parker. Can you?
