If you have ever accidentally vacuumed up a penny, a bolt, a Lego, or a Barbie shoe, you probably learned rather quickly that these items are not good for vacuum cleaners. As your vacuum began smoking, it probably smelled a lot like burning money.
If you are in the market for a vacuum cleaner, consider buying a Shop Vac. They are not just for the shop. There are many different models, some designed specifically for the home. They offer both wet and dry suction, they are well built, and they are very reasonably priced.
You can use the Shop Vac in your home as well as in the workshop, basement, or garage. Some models can even be used outdoors to blow leaves. There are also compact models designed especially for people who live in small spaces, and there are units that run extra quiet.
I bought my first Shop Vac about seven years ago, and I have never had a problem with it. Mine is the “All Around” 6 amp model, which came with several attachments. The suction is as powerful now as it was when it was new. No matter what we vacuum up, I never see smoke as I did with my last popular name brand upright.
I’ve used my Shop Vac for wet and dry messes alike. It uses disposable filter bags for dry messes and comes with a re-usable foam sleeve for cleaning up water. Either one is simple to put in place and simple to remove.
While it is built for heavy-duty use, it also works great as an everyday vacuum. I only paid about $40 for it at the time (currently priced at $50 and up but still a great bargain), and I will never buy another traditional vacuum. I have paid big bucks for traditional models in the past and none has ever worked as well, lasted as long, or been as convenient as my Shop Vac.
