Shopping for Your Spouse

Are you out in the stores looking for a gift that speaks from the heart for your spouse? In years past, shopping always seemed easy. My husband enjoys a variety of activities, so we just had to find the current activity he was enjoying and give a present that remarked on that or that he could enjoy. For example, if he was interested in golf – we could look for golf clubs. With video games, there was always something new and interesting out there.

This year, that option isn’t presenting itself as easily. For one thing, our budget is rather limited so we are focusing the efforts of our budget on our daughter. So the gifts we go for this year need to be smaller, containing more meaning and hopefully carrying the promise that we can give to each other. I have an idea of what I want to give him, but that idea costs more than I can afford at the moment. So I am looking for something other.

Creating Gifts

Creating gifts is one way to give them deeper meaning. I’m working on a quilt for my daughter’s teacher and my daughter is painting a frame for one of her grandmothers. When we make a gift, we’re making it with our own personal investment of emotion and caring. So consider in your shopping travails that it’s not the expense of the gift or the gift itself that really matters, but what we put into the gift.

So when you are out shopping for your spouse, consider some of the ideas that Sherry offered in Shopping for the Man in Your Life and Christmas Gifts for Her. Enjoy your shopping and remember – the gift is in the giving – not in the item itself.

What gifts have meaning for you around this time of year?
