Life should be so simple…
Food and shoes, what more could a girl ask for? (Okay… diamonds, but I’m working with a budget here.) With the holidays fast approaching the streets of New York City will soon be chock full of men, women, and children on the hunt for the perfect gift. As such, I’ve decided to list a few of my favorite Big Apple haunts. I started with this blog and am slowly adding a few more as we enter the gift-giving season.
The following retailers offer two items that are essential to any woman’s life—-chocolate and shoes:
Jacques Torres Chocolate Haven
If you watch the Food Network then you may know chef Jacques Torres as Mr. Chocolate. The talented chef may be hard to understand (the French accent and all), but his decadent chocolate masterpieces speak for themselves. Torres opened his first chocolate store with adjoining factory in Brooklyn in 2000. Four years later he made Manhattanites day by opening another chocolate shop/factory on Hudson St. Jacque Torres Chocolate Haven is a chocoholic’s Mecca. Not only can you indulge in mouth-watering chocolate creations, you can also watch how they are created behind a glass-viewing window. The shop sells chocolate treats filled with untraditional flavors such as peanut butter and jelly and chai tea. If you have children be prepared to shell out a few buckets for Torres’ unusual and addictive chocolate-covered cheerios, which rank among the top sellers at the shop.
Té Casan
When a retailer bills itself as an emporium, you know you are in for a real treat. Or, at the very least you should know that you’ll have a hard time resisting their offerings. Brace yourself as you duck into the new 7,500-foot Soho shoe emporium Té Casan. Located at 382 West Broadway the store will knock you off your feet. Not only by the presentation of its shoes, but in the style and sheer volume of the finely crafted works of art (for your feet). The store carries limited edition collections created by shoe designers based in Barcelona and displays their wares in a sleek three-level space that includes hive-like fitting “booths.” Upon entering the building shoppers are greeted by an associate who provides tours of the massive store. There’s even a small tea salon in the basement if you need a place to rest your tired tootsies after a long day of making like Carrie Bradshaw.
