Should You Consider Adoption Part 1

Would you be surprised to know there are about 115,000 children in the foster care system in the United States waiting for a family to call their own? I am not sure what I can do just as a regular person to help people consider giving these kids a family. I am not sure where the hesitation comes from for people to adopt. I am going to go through some of the deterrents that I have heard.

Adoption not only benefits the children you give a family but it also give you such a gift of the love of a child. Each state has their own benefits that if you do an internet search you can find them. I can tell you about adoption in Texas.

First if you adopt a sibling group, a special needs child, a child over the age of three or a child of a minority ethnicity you qualify for reimbursement from the state for the lawyer’s fee for the adoption. If you choose children from this group you also are eligible for Medicaid for that child until the age of 18. You may also qualify for a monthly adoption subsidy to help with the care of the child until they turn 18.

The state of Texas also provides a college education for any child that was in foster care before adoption. So for my three kids they can all become doctors at a college in Texas and it will not cost me anything!

The best reason to adopt a child from foster care is its simple; the kids did nothing to deserve to be raised in a foster home. They did not ask to not have parents and home of their own and doesn’t every child deserve a family? We have been blessed by the incredible children that we were lucky enough to adopt.

About Tammy Woolard

My name is Tammy and I am 40 year old mother of 3 wonderful children who came to us through domestic adoption. Although we did not have any fertility issues we chose adoption because there are so many kids that did not ask to be born but truly want a family to love. We did research on adoption choices and decided on domestic adoption through CPS. You would be surprised the differences between each agency. The adoption process is nothing like you see in the movies. I am also a 5 year breast cancer survivor. When I was diagnosed my kids were 3, 5 and 7 I did so much research I may have driven my Dr. a little crazy but that is ok it is my body not his.
