I happen to be typing this today while dealing with a fever, chills, a headache, a stuffy and runny nose and a heavy cough. This is after spending some time in the bathroom with my youngest child, whose croupy cough had be a bit concerned before the steam eased it back to a less severe form. We all have to recover by tomorrow, since we are being treated, the entire family, to a visit to the circus, something that the kids have been pining for for years, although the event was never in the budget.
So, needless to say, I am not in the best of moods today and may be a little acerbic, okay angry. Although of course I cannot be completely certain, I believe that the cause of our illnesses can be traced back to a playdate earlier in the week we had with a child who should have been home in bed.
The child was brought to the playdate with a runny nose, a bad cough and probably the rest of the symptoms my children and I are currently experiencing. The little guy was obviously miserable. After the playdate, the mom planned on taking him to a kids class and then on to some errands.
People, if your child is sick and it isn’t an emergency to take him or her out then would you please keep the child home? I know that there are special circumstances, especially when both parents work, but if you are just taking your sick child out because you are bored or don’t want to waste the money you spent on a particular activity, then have some sense. Not only do you wind up sharing the illness with other kids (and grouchy, exhausted parents), but you aren’t doing your child any favors either. A sick child should have the opportunity to rest and recover.
What do you think?
