Signs Your Husband’s Having an Affair…

…with a DVR.

Before I list the symptoms, let me explain how I got us into this mess. Because it was me who agreed to bring this third party into our marriage. Oh yes, make no mistake about it. I purposely introduced him to this vixen.

Don’t get me wrong. I wanted it just as bad as he did and I’m smitten with it too, but Wayne is really head over heals.

The surefire signs he’s gaga for the DVR:

1. He set it up the moment he came home. (To save us money, I went to pick it up at one of Comcast’s branches. If we installed ourselves we didn’t have to pay that fee.)

2. He read the instruction manual that came with it. (Wayne’s one of those guys who instinctively knows how to set stuff up. But when he reads the manual? That means he wants to absorb all the operating info he might otherwise miss if he was just to fa-diddle working it on his own.)

3. He knew how to work it before he went to bed that night.

4. He kept shouting from the couch, “This is so cool!” and “This is the coolest thing ever! Thanks for picking one up for us, babe.” (We had talked about upgrading to the DVR service as a joint Christmas present, but then decided to hold off. It was only after learning that I could save some money by picking one up that I made a trip to get one. Which I finally had time to do last week.)

5. The first thing he did when he woke up the morning after we got it was to run downstairs and see if his test records worked.

6. The first thing he did upon coming home that night was to grab the remote and watch his recordings.

And the most telling sign of all…

7. The very first series recording he made was his favorite show, Cheaters. (It now dominates the listings in our saved shows menu.)
