Simple Crafts from Paper Plates

Lady Bug

Place one paper plate face down. Paint the back black. Turn the second paper plate face down and paint it red. When dry, cut it in half. Color black circles randomly on the red sections, or cut circles from black construction paper or felt and glue them on. Cut a larger square from another paper plate and color it black (or cover it with black felt or paper). Staple the circle to the top of the black plate. This is the head. Cut a black pipe cleaner if half and staple the pieces onto the head as antennas. Attach the two red plate halves to the top of the black plate with a brad. Push the brad through all the pieces, and open the ends of the brad (this will help the wings move).

Spider

Place a paper plate face down and paint it black. Cut a circle from another paper plate and paint it black as well. Staple it to the top of the plate to make a head for your spider. Cut four black pipe cleaners in half, staple them to the sides of the plate, and bend about one inch from the end.

Shiny Sun

Turn a paper plate into a bright sunshine project. Turn it upside down and paint the back bright yellow. Cut triangles from poster board or more paper plates. Paint them orange or cover with orange felt or paper. Attach to the edges of the plate, with the points facing outward.

Sunshine

Flower

This one is similar to the one above. Paint the plate any color you like and cut circles from poster board or plates. Paint or cover in the color(s) of your choice and attach them to the edges of the plate to form a flower. Make a large one and then make a couple smaller ones from smaller plates to make a whole set. Add pipe cleaner stems and leaves if desired.
