Simple Halloween Cakes that Anyone can Make

These are extra easy and can be made from cakes out of the box!

Pumpkin or Jack-o-lantern

Make your favorite cake mix in and divide it between two round cake pans. Bake as directed. Allow to cool. Add red and yellow food coloring to white frosting (or red color to yellow frosting) to make orange. Frost each cake. Use skinny black licorice whips to make “lines” to add more dimension to the pumpkin shape. Cut them where you need to place eyes, nose, and mouth. You can use black frosting or gel from a tube to create facial features, or just make them from candy.

Candy Corn Cake

Make your favorite cake mix in a 9” x 13” pan. Cool completely. “Draw” a large, narrow triangle with your finger using powdered sugar (as large as you can make it). Then, simply round off all the points to create the shape of a candy corn. Frost the cake with yellow, white, and orange frosting. Place the cake on a pretty plate or base, and sprinkle candy corn around it.

Spider Cake

Make a chocolate cake mix in a round pan (you can make one or two). Allow to cool. Place on a large platter, cake plate, or base (cardboard wrapped in aluminum foil will work). Frost the cake with chocolate frosting. Add four black or chocolate licorice whips to each side for legs. Add a pair of extra large googly eyes on top of the cake (you can find these in the craft section – just be sure to wash and rinse thoroughly before placing on cake).

Cupcakes

You can make the pumpkin or spider as cupcakes too. Just frost cupcakes with orange frosting and make faces or frost with chocolate and add eyes. You can use small pieces of licorice to make legs that stick out.
