Try these ideas for keeping track of jewelry:
“Handy” Jewelry Keepers
You will need a pair of gloves, something to use for filler, some heavy lace, and some fabric glue for this project. Look for a pretty pair of dress gloves, such as those found in formal wear shops (Grandma may have some that you can use or you can look in a thrift shop too). If you can’t find formal ones, any pair will do. Pick a great color, preferably one that matches the room.
Stuff gloves with cotton balls, fiberfill, clean discarded nylons, or even plastic grocery bags. Stuff the finger sections well. Push filling down with the tips of your fingers or with a pencil if necessary. Add some potpourri or spray with perfume if desired, to create a sachet and jewelry holder all in one.
Glue the opening at the wrist of the glove closed. Allow the glue to dry and then glue the heavy lace around the edge. Decorate as desired.
Place rings on the “fingers” and push earrings through the lace securing them by placing the earring backs on the other side of the lace. Do the same with pins and brooches. Place bracelets around the “wrist” above the lace.
If you would like to make a necklace holder to match, you can use the other glove. Place a doll stand inside the glove before sealing the opening so it will stand up, fingers pointing upward. Alternatively, you can complete it as directed above and glue a picture frame easel to the back to stand it up. Hang necklaces over the finger sections.
Jewelry by the Letter
Pick up a large pre-cut wooden letter in the first initial of you child’s name. Have her decorate the letter to taste with paints, glitter, stickers, etc. Add tiny self-drilling hooks or small mug hooks, attaching them in a staggered pattern. Add a saw-tooth picture hanger to the back or use a staple gun to attach heavy ribbon to the back for hanging on the wall. Hang jewelry on the hooks.
