If you are a mom, then you know that Mother’s Day doesn’t always equate to time off. After all, someone has to prepare gifts for the grandmothers, great-grandmothers and other special women in our children’s lives.
If you are looking for a simple craft to make with your kids to present to grandma, nana, or granny on Sunday, then consider the following projects that will be treasured for years to come:
“GREEN” FLOWER POT
This flower pot is made out of recycled materials, so not only are you making mom happy, but you’re benefiting the environment as well.
Materials:
Plastic milk or juice jugs
Fabric scraps
Felt in your favorite colors
Scissors
Potting soil
White craft glue
Water
Bowl
Paintbrush
Small rocks
Flowers
Directions:
Cut the top off of the plastic jug, just under the handle.
Turn jug upside down and poke 4 small drain holes in the bottom.
Cut fabric into 1-inch squares.
In a bowl, mix 2 parts glue and 1 part water.
Paint glue mixture onto one side of the outside of the jug.
Apply glue onto the jug with paintbrush, and then layer the fabric over the sides of the jug.
Add another layer of glue over fabric.
Cut 1.5-inch wide strips from felt, enough to go around the opening of the pot.
Glue the strip onto the lip of the pot, overlapping both sides, inside and out.
Add small rocks to the bottom of the pot.
Add a small amount of soil, and then add the flowers of choice.
Fill pot with soil, then carefully pat down the soil around the flower.
FINGERPAINT FLOWER POT
Materials:
Empty clay pot
Paint
Directions:
Be sure clay pot is clean, dry, and all labels have been completely removed.
Have children dip their fingertips into the paint and place them on the clay pot to form the petals of the flowers.
Repeat this process to create middle of the flower–alternate colors (red flower, yellow center, pink flower, purple center, etc).
Allow to dry thoroughly.
Place soil and potted flower in pot before presenting to mom.
