Simple Steps to Baby-Proofing Your Home

There are so many thoughts racing through your mind when you’re expecting. There are plans to be made, and important decisions to make. It can get very overwhelming and stressful. It can be difficult to remember everything you need to do. One thing you do need to remember is to get your home ready for your new arrival!

You have probably already started this by getting a room or space ready for your baby to eat, sleep, and play. However, time does fly, especially with children. Before you know it you’re baby will be moving around exploring her surroundings. To make sure your baby’s curiosity doesn’t get her hurt, you’ll need to baby-proof your home. The sooner, the better – you will already be prepared, and will have one less thing to worry about.

Supplies you need:

1. Outlet Plugs or Covers
2. Gates for stairs or other rooms
3. Plastic locks for cabinets and drawers

You can find these supplies at any retail, department, or baby store in your area, as well as online.

Your baby will also soon be grabbing, pulling, and trying to climb things throughout your house. You’ll need to make sure your belongings and your baby is safe and secure.
Take a look around your house, room by room.

-Can your baby grab and possibly pull down any bookcases, entertainment sets, etc.?

-Look at and inspect everything in your home.

-Get down on the floor and crawl around to see what you could grab at. (If someone catches you, just tell them you were looking for something). Getting on their level can help us see where the dangers are.

It’s not something we parents ever want to think about – the worst accidents that could happen to our babies – however, this will help ensure their safety. It can possibly prevent many accidents and hospital visits. Other than the physical things you can do, supervision is also important!

Congratulations on your new family addition! Stay Safe!
