Just because you don’t have a summer birthday doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate with a monster bash that people will be talking about well into winter.
Summer parties typically involve barbeques, backyard bonfires and plenty of beverages. However, if you are looking to spice up your seasonal get-together why not think outside of the box with these fun themes:
Go West: Ditch the beach theme and kick up your heels at a western-themed hoedown. Print up invitations on computerized wanted posters and request that guests attend the party in western duds. For those who forget their gear, hand out large, brown paper bags (which can be made into cowboy vests), plastic sheriff’s badges and bandanas. For the menu, feature cowboy grub, including BBQ chicken, baked beans, steak, cactus cocktails and root beer.
Toy-riffic: This theme is perfect for kids of all ages. Feature a slew of hands-on activities that will keep kids busy and happy. In one corner of your yard set-up an inflatable or plastic kiddie swimming pool with Legos, and let your young guests construct colorful creations. In another area, place picnic tables loaded with Play-Doh, a bunch of plastic spoons and knives, and some cookie cutters. Then, let kids go to town molding magnificent masterpieces. Keep the creative juices flowing by having kids make their own pizzas. Set out some dough and several bowls of toppings, including cheese, pepperoni, sausage, olives, mushrooms and green peppers.
Teddy Bear Tea: Preschoolers will love to attend this summer shindig. On the invitation be sure to encourage your guests to bring along their favorite teddy bear or other stuffed friend. Serve apple or white grape juice as tea along with finger sandwiches made from cream cheese and jelly or plain peanut butter. Kids can make their own dessert by decorating teddy bear-shaped cookies.
