Simple Sweet Treats to Take to Holiday Parties

The following festive treats are guaranteed to spread holiday cheer at your next party.

Gather your children and let them help out with these simple recipes. The Festive Fudgy Fruit Pizza is kid-friendly and you can let your youngsters help choose their favorite fruits and place the “pizza toppings” on the cookie crust. And what child (or adult) doesn’t like Jell-O? The following recipe for Creamy Cream Cheese Christmas Gelatin Dessert is sure to score raves from family members of all ages.

FESTIVE FUDGY FRUIT PIZZA

Ingredients:

1/2 cup margarine

3/4 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla extract, divided

1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon cocoa, divided

1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup Chocolate syrup, divided

1 package (8 oz.) nonfat cream cheese

1 cup powdered sugar

2 cups sliced fresh strawberries

2 cups fresh blueberries

2 fresh bananas, sliced thin

1/4 cup Strawberry syrup

Directions:

Heat oven to 325 degrees.

Lightly grease 12-inch pizza pan.

Beat margarine, granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla until creamy. Add 1/2 cup cocoa; beat well. Gradually add flour and 1/4 cup chocolate syrup, beating until well combined.

Press dough evenly into prepared pan, to form cookie crust.

Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until set.

Cool completely.

Prepare filling by combining cream cheese, powdered sugar, remaining 1-tablespoon cocoa and remaining 1-teaspoon vanilla extract. Spread over crust to within 1-inch of edge.

Cover; refrigerate until cold, about 1 hour.

Just before serving, arrange fresh fruit on top; drizzle with remaining 1/4 cup chocolate syrup and strawberry syrup.

Makes 12 servings.

CREAMY CREAM CHEESE CHRISTMAS GELATIN DESSERT

Ingredients:

1 package (3 ounces) lemon gelatin

4 cups boiling water

1 package (6 ounces) strawberry gelatin

1/2 cup butter

1/4 cup golden brown sugar

1 cup flour

1/2 cup coarsely chopped nuts

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened

3/4 cup sugar

1 cup heavy cream, whipped

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Dissolve lemon gelatin in 1 cup of boiling water; cool. Dissolve strawberry gelatin in remaining 3 cups boiling water; cool.

In mixing bowl, cream butter with sugar. Gradually stir in flour; add nuts.

Spread mixture evenly in a 13-by-9-inch pan.

Bake 15 to 18 minutes.

Remove and chill for 15 minutes.

Beat cream cheese with sugar. Mix in whipped cream.

Gently stir in cooled lemon gelatin. Pour onto chilled crust; chill until firm.

Pour cooled strawberry gelatin over firm lemon gelatin mixture; chill until firm.

Cut into squares. Serves 18.
