The most precious thing in the world to us is our children, I believe. When their hearts break, you feel the knife in your own chest. Watching them going through a difficult time over the loss of a parent through death or the separation of a family unit is at times too difficult to bear. You are there for them, of course, but maybe they are missing something. They just might benefit from something or someone else.
The Big Brothers Big Sisters program is an organization that has been around for a very long time. They help kids ages 6 through 18 by just being there for them. They spend a few hours or so a month with them just “chilling out”, as they say. They go on outings, play sports, talk, go to movies, go out to eat and so on. It gives the child a safety net to have someone else to fall back on and become a friend to.
The Big Brothers and Big Sisters are made up of caring people that want to make a difference in someone’s life. These people donate their time to befriend a child in need. They are carefully screened individuals from your community.
If your daughter has lost her mother through death or she is, otherwise, not available to her through divorce, she might be helped by having this female figure in her life. The same also holds true if your son is needy for the same or similar reasons. Many people have family members or friends that they can rely on for this type of support, but many others simply have no one to help them in this way.
If you have a child or know of someone has a child that is in need of something extra in his or her lives maybe this program will be right for him or her. You can check out other pertinent information at http://www.bbbs.org. Bless our children.
