So much for going after Liz Taylor’s record…
Last week Christie Brinkley announced that she has sworn off marriage… for good… maybe.
Seriously, the former supermodel, who recently took her cheating ex-husband Peter Cook to divorce court in what was considered one of the ugliest splits in Long Island history, says she is over the idea that marriage is forever.
Did I mention Cook was Brinkley’s fourth husband?
In the end Brinkley and Cook settled out of court with the gorgeous blond bombshell paying her philanderer ex $2 million in exchange for sole custody of their children.
By all accounts $2 million settlement is chump change compared to other high-profile divorces including former Beatle Paul McCartney and his ex-wife Heather Mills.
Six years after the couple promised to love each other until death do them part they squared off in court and Mills was awarded a lump sum of $33 million plus assets totally more than $15 million. The singer was also ordered to “periodical payments” of $70,000 for the couple’s 4-year-old daughter, Beatrice.
Of course, when you consider that the legendary musician is worth nearly $800 million, $33 million is practically a drop in the bucket.
Thirty-three million is nothing compared to what singer/songwriter Neil Diamond have to fork over to his wife of 25 years Marcia Murphy. By the time the pair’s divorce became final in 1995, Diamond agreed to pay Murphy a jaw-dropping $150 million for sticking with him through good times and bad.
Personally, I think actress Amy Irving made out much better. She made a cool $100 million after just four years (and one divorce) with mega-moviemaker Steven Spielberg. The “E.T.” director reportedly learned one of life’s lessons the hard way: never agree to a prenuptial agreement without an attorney present. Reports claim the pair drafted their prenup on a cocktail napkin. Needless to say, it didn’t hold up well in court.
