Sizzling Summer Airfare Bargains

It took the demise of one of my favorite airlines and the introduction of an insane new carrier fee for me to finally stop procrastinating and sign up for a service that tracks down the most affordable airfare rates available.

It what might be the smartest move I’ve made in a long time–I finally became a member of the Airfarewatchdog.com team. I can’t say enough about the incredible deals offered by this travel site that employs analysts to monitor every airline and search for the lowest fares on the market. What I love about this site is that once you enter your departure city and your desired destination you are automatically sent daily low fare alerts to scan and choose from. What’s more, you aren’t obligated to book anything from the list nor are you charged a fee for the service.

In addition, the site also sends lists of the best travel deals available the world over. Whereas some of the bargain flights might not be departing from your local airport you are least notified that they exist and you can plan accordingly if the deal is too good to pass up.

The following are samples of some incredible summer airfares I found on the site. Take a look and you might just be inspired to travel beyond your backyard in the next couple of months:

Phoenix

If you can stand the area’s sweltering heat then you should seriously consider taking advantage of the sizzling deals being offered by a number of major airlines (and local hotels–$149 per room per night at the Four Seasons Resort in Scottsdale—-HELLO!) to Phoenix. Right now United Airlines is offering deals from Los Angeles to Phoenix from $149 round-trip. If you fly American you can jet round-trip from Chicago O’Hare to Phoenix for just $239.

New Orleans

Yeah, it’s hot here too, but this is summertime folks. The city, which was famously ravaged by Hurricane Katrina, is back on its feet and blossoming. Right now you can get to the Big Easy on US Airways from New York LaGuardia, Las Vegas, Denver, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., (for midweek and Saturday travel), through November 12, 2008 for just $109 one-way.

Orlando

Another hot summer destination, another hot summer travel deal. The massively popular destination is packed this time of year, but if you can’t beat the crowds (or the heat) you might as well join them, right? You can get to Orlando from Philadelphia on Southwest Airlines for just $64 one-way from now through October 30, 2008.

Austin

Yes, it’s oppressively hot here too, but this progressive little Texas city is a hot spot for summer travelers looking to dig into award-winning barbeque and swing to the non-stop music that fills the air. Southwest Airlines is currently offering one-way airfares for $79 to Austin from Los Angeles, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Oakland and Philadelphia through October 30, 2008.
