Likely you’ll find those who are skeptical of the Christian faith are going to be the ones to challenge you in your beliefs. Not only might they ask tough questions you might not have answers to, but your very walk might be put under a magnifying glass.
We as Christians really don’t have all the answers. It would be great if we did. It is difficult for so many to understand what it is to live by faith. It’s really important we as Christians be grounded enough so we know why we believe as we do so we don’t allow the enemy to take what can be a valuable witness to someone and use it to steer us off track or plant doubt in our own hearts.
1 Peter 3:5, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense for everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.”
Be prepared to answer some tough questions and don’t be afraid to say, “I just don’t know” if you truly don’t. If you don’t have the answer, do some researching. The internet is a great place to start. Likely someone else has dealt with the same question as you have at one time or another.
Some questions you might be asked:
- Why do bad things happen to good people?
- Where was God when I prayed?
- What makes you so sure your God is the true God?
- How do you know the Bible is really accurate? It’s gone through so many translations.
- Why should I want to serve a God who thinks what I’m doing is wrong?
- I’m glad your religion works for you. I’m just fine the way I am.
- I’m a good person; I don’t understand why I need Jesus to go to heaven.
- What proof do you have that what happened in the Bible is true?
Romans 8:5-6, “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”
It is difficult for those who are led by their fleshly nature to understand what it means to be led by the Spirit.
I hope to be looking at some ways to handle some of these tough questions in future blogs.
