Last week my daughter attended a sledding party. Unfortunately, it didn’t last long because of poor weather conditions. Still, she was able to visit with friends and she scored a super cute party favor-—a sled made out of wooden craft sticks.
The mom, who handcrafted each and every miniature sled, told me that had she known the weather was going to be so bad, she would have had the kids make the craft project themselves. They are that easy to make. All you need are 8 wooden craft sticks, some glue and a few embellishments, and you have your own adorable sled that can be used as a tree decoration or a sled for dolls.
Here’s how to make it:
Materials:
8 wooden craft sticks per sled
Craft glue
Your favorite color paint
Paintbrush
Ribbon
Other embellishments (glitter glue, stickers, buttons, etc.)
Directions:
Place three craft sticks on a flat, dry work surface. These will be the sled’s panels.
Stagger the outer two sticks about 1/4-inch down from the middle stick.
Glue each of the outer sticks to the middle stick by applying a thin dot of glue to each side of the middle stick. Push the outer sticks into the middle stick and hold down for about 15 seconds, so it can adhere properly.
Glue on two more craft sticks to the outside panel of sticks. These will be the sled’s runners. The runners should be placed on their sides and glued flush to the panels.
Assemble and glue the last two panels in the same way as detailed above.
Allow the glue to dry thoroughly before moving on to the next step.
Once the glue is dry, gently flip it over and glue another craft stick onto the top of the sled.
Allow the glue to dry thoroughly.
When the glue is completely dry, you can decorate the sled. Paint it any color you desire. You can also write your name in glitter glue or add other embellishments.
If you want to hang the finished sled, then tie a piece of ribbon onto it to make a hanger handle.
