Sleeping With Barbie

I’ve written about the real-life Barbie Malibu Dream House, but now fans of the iconic blonde Jill of all trades have another travel destination to add to their summer vacation list: the Barbie Suite in Las Vegas.

The Palms Casino Resort, known for its Fantasy Tower, which features mega-suites that include bowling lanes, basketball courts and indoor swimming pools, is now home to a Barbie wonderland. The hotel’s newest addition, dubbed the Barbie Suite, is 2,350-square-feet of pure girly fun.

In addition to a sprawling pink bedroom, complete with a princess bed decked out in pink satin sheets and powdery soft pillows, the suite also features a frou-frou living room, a mirror made of vintage Barbie dolls and lots of space for gals of all ages to party like a rock star Barbie.

The hotel claims the suite can hold up to 50 people for events, such as Sweet 16 birthday parties, bachelorette bashes, and individual stays by Barbie obsessed tweens. The only thing standing in the way of you and Barbie’s inner sanctum is a mere $4,000. That’s how much cash you will have to front per night if you want to live like a doll for a day.

For those of you who can’t afford to drop four grand on a night in a pink palace, you might consider sticking with the following frugal option. Your daughter can bring her dolls along and make this economical vacation property into a Barbie-licious retreat for her plastic pals:

The Girls Glamp Out package at the Lakedale Resort on San Juan Islands, Washington, includes accommodations in a canvas bunkhouse (with two queen beds and a futon), breakfast daily, firewood, a $20 voucher to the General Store, a snack basket, and a San Juan Transit day pass for sightseeing (a $15 value per person). The 82-acre resort has three lakes, with activities like hiking, swimming, biking and kayaking. Summer specials start at $150 per room per night and run through September 30, 2009.
