My husband, David finally sent the slide show DVD to his mother yesterday. One of the advantages of living near the FedEx hub in Memphis is we can ship anything and have it to its destination the next day. My mother in law received the DVD today. She called my husband at work crying. I knew it touched her to warrant a middle of the week daytime phone call. She told him she couldn’t believe that pictures would make her cry. My husband and I laughed for a few minutes that I was actually the good daughter in law for the day.
As soon as I hung up the phone with my husband it was ringing again. My mother in law called me directly. In twenty one years of being married to her son I can count on one hand the number of times she has called me at work about anything. I could hear in her voice she was still very choked up from watching the video. She said she knew David would tell me she said thank you for her but she wanted to call me directly. Fighting back tears my mother in law told me that her and my father in law both loved the DVD. I still think there is something genetic with males in my family and their fascination with cars. She commented on how my father in law loved seeing the cars they had owned over the years.
My mother in law said something else that I thought was very significant. She said something to the effect that looking at pictures in a photo album was one thing but seeing a series of photos put to music made a powerful statement. Then she asked me if I would make another copy and send to Aunt Jo (her sister in Tampa). Fighting back more tears she thanked me again for all the hard work I had put into making the DVD.
