Small Area, Big Makeover

Even if you can’t add more space to your home, you can make your small spaces have a big impact. Dramatic touches can give even the smallest nook presence. This is where your eye for the unique comes into play. Using items that have other purposes as decorative pieces or accessories, is one of the most interesting ways to accomplish this. High style, bold color, unusual shapes and textures, also work as inspirations.

Changing or adding color is often one of the best sources for making dramatic changes, and it’s generally simple and cost effective when done with paint. It’s also the obvious choice. What else is there, that’s do-able and affordable?

Instead of paint, consider wallpaper. I know to some it sounds like a dirty word, but with the products available today, it’s not nearly as difficult to hang -or remove- as it once was. There are even eco-friendly options. One wall done in wallpaper can make a great focal point that sets off the rest of the room. It call also help add depth to a small space.

There are wall decals as well, if you don’t want to cover the entire wall.

If you don’t want to do wallpaper at all, consider fabric as an alternative. This is an especially great idea for people who collect fabric and need to use some of it (gee, I don’t know anyone like that… ). Of course, there are plenty of other fabric treatment ideas, besides using fabric on walls.

An exotic fabric or accessory in the space can transform the entire room. Look for something truly unique, something stunning. Step outside your comfort zone and do something daring. It will not only give your space some pizzazz, but it will also tend to make a great conversation starter.

Go for it!
