I just read that Justin Timberlake told Fashion Rocks magazine that this season’s American Idol winner, Taylor Hicks, can’t carry a tune in a bucket. Actually, it went a little further than that, with Justin being quoted as saying “People think he looks so normal and he’s so sweet and he’s so earnest, but he can’t carry a tune in a bucket. If he has any skeletons whatsoever – if, God forbid, he’s gay – and all these people in Mississippi who voted for him are like ‘Oh, my God, I voted for a queer!’ It’s just too much pressure.”
Now it seems he is backing off the statement, saying he has “great affection” for Taylor. Justin also went on to say he despises American Idol and yet is completely fascinated with it as well.
I just wonder what would cause Justin to make such comments. I know after the Super Bowl scandal he seemed to lay low, but now, right before the release of his second solo album “FutureSex/LoveSounds,” he is bashing the American Idol winner? Taylor Hicks seems to be everywhere lately. He is on the new Ford commercial (which I swear they run every 5 minutes) and he just signed a book deal for a quarter of a million dollars. Is it that Justin is worried about the sales of this new album and is just trying to drum up some free publicity? I honestly do not think that anyone who began their career on the Mickey Mouse show, and then moved to a boy group should talk so harshly about someone who won a singing competition reality show, but then that is just me. Whether he can sing or not, America seems to be in love with Taylor Hicks.
What do you think? Was Justin justified in his remarks? Could they have been taken out of context as his publicist said?
