My little guy is driving me crazy when it comes to his eating habits lately. It seems that he has a mind of his own these days, and foods he used to devour he is getting sick of, or bored with, and just doesn’t want anymore of it. With our food allergy issues as it is, it is hard to just give him whatever he wants without going through a trial process. We usually wait to introduce one food at a time, and then give it a week to see if he tolerates it. So, we don’t have the luxury of trying multiple foods at once.
Lately, it seems like he doesn’t want any liquids. He wants something he can feed himself. I am trying to get creative, but it is hard to know exactly what he wants when he can’t quite communicate yet. One thing that has been my saving grace in this fun stage is giving him those food pouches. Have you seen them? I have to say they are probably one of the best inventions for babies yet. Not only are they convenient to take with you places, but for a little guy like mine who loves a straw and anything like it, these food pouches have saved me. The best part? He can hold them himself and feel like a big boy. And, my older kids have theirs too that they love, so that probably makes him feel more like a big kid, too.
I have to be careful with which ones I buy because many of them come with yogurt mixed in, or other foods we haven’t tried yet. But, the ones he can have are great! The problem is that if he can’t hold it or grab it himself, he doesn’t want it! This eliminates a lot of food in his safe food list. Occasionally he surprises me and let’s me feed him with a spoon, but most of the time, it is a daily struggle.
I know that like most things, it is just a phase, but it is so frustrating. It is time to just get creative and think outside the box. Hopefully those teeth will come in quickly and we can start feeding this baby the real food he craves!
