Some Odds and Ends

Yep, another installment of odds and ends. I hope you find them useful.

Return Address Labels

You can find return address labels in tons of cute styles and different colors. They are handy to use when sending off mail, but do keep something in mind. The ones with the cute little faces that show a mom, dad, teen, child, infant, and even a pet, complete with each family member’s name might look adorable. Yet, do you really want everyone to know how many children you have, their approximate ages, and their names, complete with address? Just something to think about.

Encouraging Kids to Recycle

A great way to get kids to help recycle is to have them collect aluminum cans. The cans should be rinsed, crunched, and placed into bags or containers, before being taken to the recycling center. You may be thinking that your kids aren’t exactly going to be thrilled by the prospect, but if you tell them that they can keep the money exchanged for the cans, they might just sing a different tune. The price varies (check in your area), but it can add up to some pocket money pretty quickly while doing something good.

Another Way to Reuse Paper

Not everyone has a recycling center nearby or has recycling pick up with the trash pick up. Still, most of us want to do our part. If you cannot easily recycle paper such as newspaper or all those papers and notes that are sent home from school, try this idea (of course, you’ll have to pick out all the best school papers first). After cutting some of those notes and school papers into scratch paper, and hanging the important ones on the fridge, you should still have plenty left to line the trashcan. Doing so will help soak up any leaks, keep the can cleaner longer, and get another use from the paper before it’s eventually thrown away.
