Do you ever see or hear a news item about someone doing something so bizarre that you immediately find yourself announcing out loud: “How can anyone be so dumb?” You may find yourself doing so after reading this next blog.
Recently, I heard about a burglar who was captured by police after he hung out a bit too long at the residence he was looting. At first I thought perhaps, the home was equipped with a superior security system and officers arrived within minutes of the robber’s entrance. I was wrong. In fact, according to police the home this particular burglar targeted didn’t even have a home security system.
Rather, according to news reports, the reason this particular robber was caught was because he was still in the home when its owner came back. Police told local reporters that Larcellus Angelo Scott broke into Denise Bealessio’s home and had ordered a pizza and was doing a load of laundry when she returned home from work. According to police, the 51-year-old homeowner arrived just as the pizza did. She turned the delivery driver away and was met inside the door by Scott. Bealessio told officers that 23-year-old Scott attacked her, but she was able to escape unharmed. A neighbor heard the scuffle and called police, who found Scott rummaging through Bealessio’s purse. Apparently, he had written one of Bealessio’s checks to pay for the pizza.
Are you getting all of this? Isn’t it crazy? At first I found it a bit hard to believe, but then I remembered that some people are apt to do things others have a hard time grasping. In any event, police did arrive on the scene a few minutes after they received the call from Bealessio’s neighbor. According to officers, Scott was arrested on suspicion of burglary, robbery and forgery and was being held behind bars in lieu of $85,000 bail.
By the way, police told reporters that Scott targeted Bealesssio’s home because he used to live next door.
