It was like this with both of my babies. Before their birth I tried to imagine what kind of personality they would have while trying very hard to enjoy every minute of each pregnancy (it goes fast). With my daughter I wondered if she would be like her brother. Watching my son’s and now my daughter’s personality blossom is something I anticipated and truly enjoy to see. My son’s personality is pretty clear at this “toddler” stage in his life. He is out going, happy, very interested in playing musical instruments. He does every thing with flair and animation. His likes and dislikes are also quite evident and he is a master at showing off his independence.
It has been ten weeks since my daughter’s birth and her personality is really started to surface. Aside from being very clear about her needs as a newborn (only crying or fussing when she truly needed something), her personality early on was just being a newborn baby. Now that she is a little bit older she is expressing in small ways just who she is. I can tell when she is enjoying watching something whether it me a light fixture, a colorful painting, or me exercising, her facial expressions are filled with curiosity. While she is too young to truly question her surroundings, she is inquisitive. If she does not like something she with kick it away whether it me a blanket, a toy, or her brother. She has different vocal cues; one for hunger, one for pain, one for being tired, one for annoyance, one for frustration, one for contentment, one for wonder, one for joy, and one for pure bliss. She also talks quite well with her eyes which of course is accompanied by her vocal cues and very closely tied to her facial expressions. Similar to her brother, she likes music and she likes to play and she loves to see someone smiling at her. I have found, as I am sure most parents have, that photographs are the best way to capture and even discover some of my baby’s personality. She is becoming her own person and I am excited to see who she will become!
