We talk a lot about motivation and growth here in the home business blog. For many of us, getting our home businesses off the ground is only the first major hurdle—staying involved, motivated, and focused on building our businesses is a challenging, full-time focus for us too. Keeping track of the daily details may be the forest that keeps us from seeing the trees that are change and progress. It may take something drastic to drag us into the future with our businesses—whether we want to or not!
Growing pains are hard! Even if we have put a lot of time and thought into the planning process and have a solid business plan to guide us along the way, it is easy to get stuck in a cozy place with our businesses. I don’t know about you, but I also find that there are times when I am just craving a bit of a respite. I don’t want to work on growing my business because I am stretched and strained and tired out from having to deal with other things. I need one thing in my life to be comfortable and predictable! Those are the times when I really do have to be dragged kicking and screaming (and hooting and hollering and whining) since I don’t want to move out of my comfort zone at all.
Embracing change is not required. We CAN fight it, but why really? While the changes will come, we do get to decide whether we rise to expand and meet the challenges, or we keep our businesses small on purpose and turn some business away. I have also learned that just because I say “no” out of exhaustion today does not mean that I won’t get another chance. Once my home business has some momentum and is heading in a certain direction (such as growth)—it will take more than one lazy day on my part to derail it.
