Spam, It’s What’s For Dinner

Depending on which website you visit, Spam is 75 years old. Really? It’s hard for me to believe it’s held on that long. Personally I don’t like Spam but someone must for it to still be around.

I work with people who are fans of Spam, one lady says her kids ask for Spam and eggs. All I can say is ewes! Although I have to admit that I have purchased a fair amount of Spam and it is a staple in my food storage.

It seems counter productive to store stuff your family won’t eat but I figure if they get hungry enough they will eat it. Plus Spam has a shelf life of close to forever so you don’t have to worry about rotating it.

If you look on the website you will find that Spam is made of normal things, two different cuts of pork, salt, sugar and potato starch. I don’t know why it seems so weird!

There have been 7 billion cans of Spam sold and there are lots of recipes for this tasty treat. I guess you could replace any meat in a recipe with Spam, although Spam and apple turnovers may be a bit much.

For food storage it’s perfect though. If you buy a can of Spam every time you go grocery shopping in a very short time you will have plenty of meat in your food storage. While it may not be your ideal food it will come in handy at times.

When the east coast was without power for several days some of my family members spent a lot of money eating out. If they had Spam in their food storage they would have been set.

Spam and canned vegetables will keep your family well fed in an emergency. Even the pickiest eaters will eat it if there is nothing else.

For those people who like Spam, way to go, you will be one step ahead of the rest of us when the Zombie Apocalypse comes.
