Sparkly Princess Theme Room

Use lots of glitter and sparkle to make a room that your little princess will find truly enchanting.

Start by creating a mural on the first wall that is visible as you enter the room. Don’t worry! Murals are not as difficult to create as you might think (see my article on painting murals for more information). All you have to do is find a picture of a castle. One with a simple design, such as those found in preschool level coloring books, would be perfect.

Freehand it if you can, or project the image onto the wall (projectors are inexpensive and handy for other projects as well). Trace the outline with chalk or light pencil lines. Paint the castle with an iridescent paint or nice pearl finish paint. When dry, trace the contours with a glitter paint marker.

Use a beautiful pastel for the other walls. Yards and yards of wispy tulle or iridescent lace in pretty pastels will also add to the charm. Spray the tulle or lace with a spray adhesive and sprinkle it with glitter or add sequins. When dry, wrap the tulle around strings of white lights or string some beads and attach them to the fabric. Hang them around the perimeter of the room, making extra swags for windows.

The bed should be the crown jewel in any princess theme room. Angle it so it looks like it is coming out of the corner. Make extra swags of wispy fabric and hang them from the ceiling in the corner to make a faux canopy. Use luxurious, satiny, fabrics in soft colors. Don’t skimp on the pillows, which should also be made from gorgeous fabrics and trims.

Cover mirror frames and picture frames with glitter or use glittery paint. Use leftover iridescent paint to treat furnishings and accessories or paint them a bright white. Softness and sparkle are the keys to creating an enchanted feel that any princess will love.
