The Special Needs Podcast Roundup went up on April 23, 2012. This week, I’d like to point out an episode of NPR’s “Morning Edition” that is titled: “Children With Autism Are Often Targeted By Bullies”. A survey by the Interactive Autism Network found that almost two-thirds of kids with autism spectrum disorders have been bullied. It features the personal experiences of one of those children.
More Special Needs Proms – 2012
This year there were plenty of proms that were held specifically for teenagers who have special needs. There also have been proms for adults with special needs. Also, this year, there has been more inclusion of high school students with special needs into the high school prom. This blog has some details about a few of these events.

Children who have special needs often require more time, and more care, from their parents than what their siblings need. Often, the child who doesn’t have special needs is going to feel overwhelmed by the needs of his or her sister or brother, (especially if the sibling is providing daily care). Here are some tips to help your other children cope with the special needs of their sibling.
How a Father Discovered Teachers Were Bullying His Son
A father wanted to know what was happening at his son’s school. His son has autism, and is not able to tell his father what was going on. So, the father put a small recording device into his son’s pocket, and sent him to school. The six hours of audio recordings revealed that the son was being bullied by his teachers.
Mother Petitions to Remove Kindergartener’s Arrest Record
A Kindergartener threw a big tantrum at school. This resulted in the school calling the police, and the child being arrested. The mother of the kindergartener has created an online petition to request that all traces of her daughter’s arrest record be erased.
Lung Transplant Allows Teen to Go to Prom
Prom is a very big deal for most high school students. This includes teens who have serious health issues that can prevent them from being healthy enough to go to prom. A teenager in West Virginia, who has pulmonary fibrosis, was able to get a lung transplant. This allowed her to be well enough to attend prom.
