Special Needs Podcast Roundup – Week of November 29, 2011

mp3 player Every week, the Special Needs Podcast Roundup brings you brand new episodes of podcasts that talk about topics, ideas, and issues that are relevant to parents of children who have special needs. There are a lot of parenting podcasts out there, but only a few of them include information that parents of kids who have special needs are looking for.

The Parent’s Journal has a few episodes that were released on November 21, 2011, that are useful and informative for parents of kids who have special needs. One episode is called “Helping Toddlers and Preschoolers with Fear”. This episode features guest Dr. Steven Marans, who is the author of “Listening to Fear”.

The other episode, which was also released on November 21, 2011, is called “How Much Homework?”. Parents of kids who have learning disabilities, or a variety of special needs, often struggle with getting their child to complete his or her homework. This episode features Dr. Harris Cooper, who is the author of “The Battle Over Homework”.

The Coffee Klatch has an episode that was released on November 27, 2011. This episode is called “Dr. Charles Parker”. As you may have guessed, this episode is hosted by Dr. Charles Parker, who is a physician, clinical neuroscientist, and writer. He believes it is time to add improved laboratory data regarding the communication networks between the brain, the endocrine system, and the immune system, into the core of psychiatric practice.

NPR has an episode of “Tell Me More” that was released on November 29, 2011. This episode is called “With Help, Teens Can Manage Epilepsy”. Fortunately, there are ways that teens who have epilepsy can learn how to manage this chronic disorder.

NPR has an episode of “All Things Considered” that was released on November 25, 2011. This episode is called “With The Flick Of A Switch, It’s Crystal Clear To Hear”. The episode features Dr. David Myers, who is an advocate for hearing loops. A hearing loop is also called an induction loop, and it makes it much easier for a person who uses a hearing aid to be able to hear sounds.

Family Health has a podcast that was released sometime in November of 2011 that is called “Taking medications with or without food”. This episode notes that there is no “hard and fast rule” about whether it is better to take prescription medications with food, or on an empty stomach. It depends on the type of medication. Many children who have special needs have to take one or more medications daily, so this could be a really helpful episode for parents to listen to.

Hope Saves the Day released episode number 97 on November 28, 2011. This episode is called “Interview with Johnny & Chris Seitz”. This episode features an interview with Chris and Johnny Seitz, who talk about how the gift of autism has brought them recognition.
