With much of the country baking in record high temperatures this summer, the name of the game is cooling off. Whether you seek comfort at the pool, in a backyard sprinkler or at the beach, lake or pond, don’t forget to take your camera so you can document the dog days of the season.
According to some meteorologists, this summer could be one for the record books in terms of high temperatures. You can add this fast fact to your summer scrapbook along with shots of your family frolicking in the sand and surf. Then, to enhance the theme, consider spicing up your summer layouts with scrapbook techniques that make your family photos pop even more.
For example, if you are looking to showcase snapshots taken during a family trip to the beach, gather several pieces of blue cardstock in a variety of different shades, including cobalt blue, baby blue, royal blue and turquoise. Next, cut the cardstock into wave shapes using decorative-edged scissors, and then layer the pieces together to form an ocean full of swells right on your scrapbook page. Another option is to purchase watercolor print patterned paper and place it in back of tan cardstock to mimic the look of a lake with a sandy forefront.
If you have a talent for painting, don’t let that gift go to waste. Rather, consider painting or drawing a sunset on scrapbook paper and add it to a summer-themed page design. You can further decorate the layout by creating beach balls from circle punches. Simply punch a circle from plain or patterned scrapbook paper, and then draw on little details with a fine-tipped black pen. Or, if you are planning to use plain paper, grab a piece of chalk and shade in sections of the ball for added color and dimension.
