Spice Up Summer Travel

left

Does your idea of a super summer vacation include posing by a huge ball of twine or touring a collection of hand painted toilet bowl covers?

Not everyone’s ideal vacation spot features palm trees, cobalt blue water and powder soft sand. Rather, some travelers go to great lengths to visit the nation’s most unusual and wacky pit stops. If you are looking to spice up your summer road adventure consider checking out these odd places:

World’s Largest Ball of Twine: Located in Darwin, Minnesota, the eye-popping attraction is the perfect spot to take a family photo that will be remembered for years to come. The massive ball of twine weighs 17,400 pounds and measures 12 feet in diameter. It’s housed in a gazebo so even if Mother Nature isn’t cooperating on the day of your visit, you can still get up close to the historic twine ball without getting wet.

Toilet Bowl Museum: If you are driving near Alamo Heights, Texas, you’ll want to make a pit stop at this popular oddity. The Toilet Seat Museum was created and is still maintained by a guy named Barney Smith who displays nearly 1000 decorated toilet covers in his oversized garage. Despite its ginormous collection of elaborately embellished toilet seats, the museum does not feature a public restroom.

House on the Rock: This eclectic attraction is located in Spring Green, Wisconsin, and attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year. The residence is built into a 60-foot tall rock and boasts a plethora of random collections, from Santa Claus figures to clown dolls and coin-operated musical instruments.

Carhenge: It’s Nebraska’s version of Stonehenge, only with cars as the stars. Located near the town of Alliance, Nebraska, the towering array of vehicles stands upright in a pattern that resembles the original prehistoric monument in England. The cars have even been spray painted to make them look like rocks.
