If you have boys in your house then chances are pretty good that you know all about Spiderman 3. I can’t tell you the number of times I catch little bits of the Spider-man theme floating through our house uttered by my eldest son. Spider-man is everywhere including in the third video game in a very successful Spider-man series.
Created by Activision, a company that goes all of the way back to the Atari 2600 days, this third game promises the best features of the previous two Spider-man video games enhanced to a new level.
In this game, Spider-man gets to swing through a dizzying array of buildings, realistically recreated from the landscape of the Manhattan skyline. While the previous games also took place in Manhattan, the Big Apple in this game is large and more realistic. The game also boasts voices straight from the movie cast of Spider-man 3, including Toby McGuire, as well as new combat moves for Spidey.
While the game roughly follows the story line of the movie (the video game developers got to see early story boards and action sequences from the movie), there are plenty of extra surprises. For example, in the game, Spider-man can go up against some street gangs that threaten to take over the city. Activison also promises that in addition to the gangs and the movie villains, there will be an entire host of baddies who will take advantage of the new landscape in their attempt to defeat Spidey.
The previous two video games in the Spider-man series made more than $462 million in the United States alone, so there is no doubt that this third game will be very successful.
Spider-man 3, the video game, is scheduled for release today, to coincide with the release of the film.
