It’s a revolving marital door in Hollywood, isn’t it? Every week someone is either getting married or divorcing and this week is no different.
Two couples that I thought were pretty solid decided to split. The first split announced was that of Heart guitarist Nancy Wilson and director Cameron Crowe. The couple was introduced by Pearl Jam manager Kelly Curtis in the early ‘80s. Although I’ve seen Crowe’s Fast Times at Ridgement High a billion times, I only recently realized that the “beautiful girl in the corvette” (as she is credited) is Wilson. The couple was married on July 27, 1986 and has ten-year-old twin boys William James and Curtis Wilson. Wilson contributed music to many of Crowe’s projects including Jerry Macguire, Almost Famous, and Vanilla Sky.
Wilson filed for divorced last week, stating irreconcilable differences. The filing says that the couple has been separated since June 15, 2008. She is seeking joint custody of their twins and is asking for spousal support.
While that split shocked me, the next one nearly knocked me off my feet. I am not a huge George Lopez fan, but I followed his story in 2004 when he underwent a kidney transplant. Who could help but love that his wife, Ann, donated one of her kidneys to Lopez? The transplant was successful and Lopez ended up losing 45 pounds after his health returned. Lopez openly credited Ann with saving his life, saying “I can’t pay her back, but what I can do is make her as happy as she thought I would when we first got married.”
This week, a rep for Lopez’s show “Lopez Tonight,” told PEOPLE that the couple, who wed in 1993, had decided to split. The rep did say it was “amicable and by mutual agreement.” The couple has one child, Mayan.
Okay, it is not a marital split, but Conan O’Brien gears up for his new TBS show, he will find himself without longtime bandleader Max Weinberg. The “couple” was together for 16 years on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.”
Guitarist from the Max Weinberg 7, Jimmy Vivino, will lead the new band, as he often did when Weinberg took a break from Late Night. Vivino made the announcement during an interview with the St. Louis Riverfront Times this week. He said, “Max has his big band out there that has been his dream all his life. And there’s a kid in Jersey that works with him occasionally,” referring to Weinberg’s touring with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. James Wormworth will fill in as the new drummer.
