Splitsville–Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer

Here we go again…

A date to the Academy Awards does not a husband make… at least when the date is John Mayer.

According to reports, Jennifer Aniston and her on-again, off-again beau of a year, are rolling solo yet again.

Less than a month ago the couple was seen at high-profile events, such as the Oscars, kissing, cuddling, and telling news reporters that they couldn’t be happier together.

What a difference a few weeks make. Soon after their public displays of affection were documented by entertainment publications the world over, Aniston left for Europe to promote Marley & Me and Mayer stayed in L.A. to record songs for his new album.

Sources say that’s when the problems started. According to one report, while Aniston was abroad the pair had “some disagreements and decided to not continue to see each other.” That same source tells PEOPLE magazine, “Jen is moving on with her life like she always does. She seems happy.”

However, another report claims Mayer broke up with Aniston after she returned from Europe.

Personally, I could care less who dumped whom, I’m just happy they are no longer together. I always thought the pairing was rather odd to begin with. Not that I have an issue with Mayer’s age, but at 40 years old, Aniston seemed light years ahead (maturity wise) than her 31-year-old boyfriend. What’s more, I don’t see how Mayer can go from dating Jessica Simpson (little league) to dating Jennifer Aniston (major league).

Regardless of their present status, there’s always the chance that they could fall back into each other’s arms like they did the last time they called it quits. In August 2008, the couple parted ways and Mayer held that now infamous impromptu press conference outside his gym in New York, saying: “I ended a relationship to be alone because I don’t want to waste somebody’s time if something’s not right.”

If “something” were right, they’d be together. Hopefully, this is the last we’ll have to hear about this non-couple.
