Spreading Smucker’s Traditions Recipe and Essay Contest,

The J.M. Smucker company which has been operating for 110 years never fails to offer fine tasting jams and jellies which make the family breakfast table a bit cozier. Smucker’s jams and jellies are also a healthier alternative to cream cheese or butter. Try some of your favorite fruit spread on an English muffin and you will gladly say goodbye to the high fat bagel and cream cheese habit. Unless, of course, you use fat free cream cheese and decide to add a dollop of Smucker’s fruit spread for a deluxe breakfast treat. Adding jams and jellies for sweetness instead of refined sugars is as safe and healthier alternative. In my home we use quite a bit of the natural fruit spread to calm everyone’s sweet tooth in a healthy way. Smucker’s is dedicated to bringing the sweetness to your family table.

This month marks the first day of the Spreading Smucker’s Tradition Recipe and Essay Contest. From September 14, 2011 until November 16, 2011, Smucker’s invites families to visit www.smuckers.com or www.smuckersenespanol.com and share their original recipes made with at least 1/4 cup Smucker’s jams, jellies, preserves, or fruit butters. In addition, you must provide an original essay of no more than 200 words in English or Spanish about how the recipe is part of your family tradition. If this recipe is something that has special meaning or involved in a special holiday or celebration tell them! Incidentally this contest falls in Hispanic Heritage Month, a time when Latinos celebrate tradition, family and culture. Smucker’s is generously flying five finalists to New Your City in March of 2012 where one will be selected as the winner. The winner will win $20,000 towards a dream family reunion.

Makes you wonder about last year’s winner, doesn’t it? Tamie J. of Prosper, Texas was the winner last year with her savory recipe “Slow Cooker Marmalade Pork Tenderloin,” Smucker’s Sweet Orange Marmalade was the star in this recipe handed down from her grandmother where it continues to be an Easter tradition.

“The smell of sweet, tangy pork always evokes wonderful memories of Easter hats, egg hunts and family meals,” said Tamie. “Food is the glue that keeps families together and Smucker’s has been a part of our lives for as long as I can remember. Recently my family created some new memories together and enjoyed sampling my winning recipe during our Grand Prize family reunion.”

Isn’t time you shared some of your family recipes?
