Spring Beauty Tips: Hair

The winter months can be hard on your hair. On cold days, you’re cramming your gorgeous locks underneath a hat or hood to stay warm. When you’re inside, forced-air heat is stripping the moisture from hair and skin.

Now that spring is here, it’s time to rejuvenate your hair! These hair tips can help restore shine, bounce, body, and softness.

  • Trim away split ends. Heat is rough on your hair, and you may find that you’ve got more split ends after the winter months. Schedule a trim with your hairdresser or ask a friend you trust to snip off the ends.
  • Try shampooing just your scalp. That’s where your hair tends to be the dirtiest — thanks to oils from your scalp. Just scrub the scalp and let the soapy runoff clean the rest of your hair.
  • If you have problems with volume, try just using conditioner at the ends of your hair. Conditioner at the crown can drag your hair down (which can make you look old, tired, and flat). Let the roots go untamed and condition the ends instead.
  • Do you use a blow dryer year round? Aim downward so the heat can help close the cuticle and boost shine in your hair. Use the cool setting for the last few minutes to help reduce frizzing. (Your hair might benefit from air drying instead.)

Spring is a great time to try a new hairstyle. It might be time to shed that long hair and try a shoulder-length (or shorter) cut. You’ll appreciate the lighter load heading into summer… and a shorter cut can help make you look younger. And if you’re trimming off ten inches or more, donate your hair to Locks of Love or another charity that uses donated human hair to make wigs for children and adults who have lost their hair to chemotherapy.
