Spring Break on the High Seas

Given the recent string of cruise line disasters, you’d think that you’d be able to snag a hefty money-saving offer by a major carrier right about now.

Well, think again. I checked, and no luck.

Cruising with my child is at the top of my bucket list and I figured I would dig around a bit to see if we could score a last-minute deal on a spring break sailing.

While there are some deals out there, none of them coincide with my daughter’s break from school. What’s more, in most cases, flights to the cruise’s departure city cost more than the actual sailing.

Sadly, we’re dry docking it for another year.

However, when the time comes for us to book a spot on a cruise I will be prepared as I already did my homework on companies that cater to kids, including:

Disney Cruise Line: The company is one of the only lines in the industry that caters specifically to families with young children. It’s Disney; what do you expect? You will be treated to amazing facilities, dining schedules and programs for your little ones, but you’ll also pay mightily for the privilege to sail with Mickey and crew. If you have the moola to make it happen, you will have a blast taking advantage of the cruise line’s many amenities, such as: Flounder’s Reef Nursery for babies; Mickey’s Pool designed for kids only; Walt Disney Theater which features shows and movies; Studio Sea, which presents interactive activities for kids and parents; character breakfasts; parades; teen dance clubs; scavenger hunts; and nightly sing-a-longs.

Norwegian Cruise Line: This is my daughter’s top pick. NCL lets you cruise along with Dora, Diego and a slew of other Nickelodeon pals on special sailing that caters to young passengers. “Nickelodeon at Sea” cruises include character meet and greets, interactive games, show premieres, SlimeTime LIVE! with Nick’s signature slime, Nick Live! poolside entertainment, Nick-themed dance parties and story time. There are also chances to participate in mock TV game shows and make a splash on the cruise line’s three multi-story water slides.
