Spring Cleaning the Bathroom – Part 3

Do you feel that spring cleaning is in the air? This is the perfect time of the year to deep clean and organize those rooms. And today we are going to be focusing on the bathroom.

Without maintaining the bathroom, it can quickly fall into bad shape. Depending on how badly your bathroom needs it, you may need to do a thorough scrub down.

My advice is to start with the decluttering, with the most likely culprit to be the medicine cabinet. This is a great opportunity to go through and throw out expired or unused medicines. Be sure to check expiration dates on all of your medications.

Go through cabinets and drawers as well. Get rid of old makeup. Replace toothbrushes.

As you have emptied these areas out, clean them as well. Usually a lightly damp soft cloth is all you need.

After you have cleaned out those areas, start at the top with dusting the ceiling and the corners. Clean the light fixtures, taking them down and using warm sudsy water.

Clean the walls but be aware of which type of cleaning is best for your wall surfaces. Wipe down switch plates and the outside of the cabinets. Dust or wipe down wall hangings. Dust or shop vac the vents and fans.

Take down your shower curtain and liner, either replacing them or washing them. Clean the inside and outside of the windows.

Scrub your tub and shower. This includes any fixtures. Soap scum can be dissolved with natural or commercial cleaners.

Thoroughly clean the toilet…outside, crevices, inside, handle. Clean the sink and fixtures. Sweep and then scrub/mop the floor. Wash the bathroom rug and clean out the garbage can.

It’s a good idea to keep the ventilation moving or open a window while you are cleaning in such a confined space, especially if you are using commercial cleaners.

It will feel good to have such a clean bathroom by the time you are done.
