When you walk into your bedroom, do you feel like you have entered a sanctuary? Or does it feel more like chaos, with stuff all over the place?
Spring cleaning is the perfect opportunity to make your bedroom what it should be, a place that you can feel comfortable entering at the end of a long day. It should be a place where you can receive a good night’s rest. Clutter and chaos take away from that.
As I have been sharing in my other spring cleaning blogs, the best way to tackle any room is to clear it out as much as possible. As best you can, take everything out.
Dust the ceiling and corners. Wash or wipe down walls, doorknobs, switch plates, vents, etc. Clean wall hangings with a duster or a lightly damp cloth.
Dust and wipe down the ceiling fan. Remove any light fixtures to give them a good cleaning.
Wash curtains or draperies. Clean the blinds. Give the windows (both inside and outside) a good cleaning.
Wash all of your bedding, including mattress pad, bed skirt, comforters, pillowcases, etc. Clean out underneath your bed. Put on clean bedding.
Dust other pieces of furniture such as bedside tables, dressers, armoires, etc. Dust/clean knickknacks and lamps. Vacuum and shampoo carpeting, or use appropriate type of cleaner if you have hardwood floors.
Before you begin putting everything back into the bedroom, decide what really belongs, what should be thrown out, what should go someplace else, etc. Don’t “re-clutter” the room.
Save your closet for last. Get rid of clothes you will never wear again (donate them). Keep only seasonal clothing in the closet and box up the rest. Eliminate unnecessary items from the closet (use storage bins).
You might also take advantage of this opportunity to add new elements to your bedroom in order to make it cozy, such as candles or new bedding. Spruce it up as long as you are spring cleaning.
