Spring Cleaning Time

spring Today it is chilly again, although I am afraid that I am already considering it to be spring. You see, we had two days this past weekend in which the temperatures “soared” into the early 70s. The snowdrops are already blooming in the yard, we had our first trip to the playground, and the town has already sent out its flyer about the annual Daffodil Days event. So, even though I am sitting her with cold hands listening to our baseboard heating system click and clack, I know in my heart that it is time to do the spring cleaning.

I got all excited on our trip to the local grocery warehouse store when my husband asked if we needed any “Magic Erasers.” “Sure!” I said. “I have some, but I’ll need more for our spring cleaning.” Yes, this is sad, very sad, isn’t it?

But I have to say that spring isn’t really here until we can throw open the windows to air out the house, hunt down the cobwebs and the dust and witness the play of sunshine on a bed that has been stripped and rotated.

I am itching to clean out the closets, wipe down the walls and even paint the upstairs bathroom, which has been taped up the entire winter since last fall when things got too cold to open the windows for painting.

I’m ready to take down the spring clothes and freshen up all of the drawers in the house. The kitchen needs a bit of rearranging, and it is time to organize the garage and put the snow blower away so the kids will have room for their bikes, balls, scooters and outdoor play huts.

I really want to seep off the porch, clean up the porch furniture and test the fairy lights, envisioning warmish afternoons sitting out there with the laptop while the little kids play.

The basement needs some attention, with craft supplies and home improvement project tools haphazardly stored on shelves. I’d like to throw open the basement door (we have a walk-out) to let in some light and the sound of the spring birds as I dust and de-clutter the space.

Too bad that it is only 42 degrees.
